The Mahopac Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Corinne Safarowic as the district’s new director of special education. She brings more than 20 years of experience as a special educator and administrator.
Safarowic most recently served as assistant director of alternative and special education at Dutchess BOCES. She has dedicated her career to creating inclusive, high-quality learning environments that support students of all abilities.
“Special education is my calling, and I am honored to join Mahopac in this leadership role,” Safarowic said. “I believe that every student deserves access to programs that meet their individual needs, and I look forward to working alongside our staff and families to make that vision a reality. My goal is to foster strong partnerships, ensure fidelity in our programs and create opportunities that allow every student to thrive both in and out of the classroom.”
Acting Superintendent of Schools Frank Miele said Safarowic’s appointment reflects the district’s commitment to strengthening its special education programs.
“Special education is very important to me and I know it’s an area where we need to continue to grow and improve,” Miele said. “Corinne brings the experience, knowledge and passion to help us move in the right direction. I am excited to see the positive impact she will have on our students, families and staff.”
Safarowic holds New York State certifications in school district leadership, school building leadership, special education and childhood education for grades 1–6. She also earned two master’s degrees from Mercy College and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and psychology from the University of Rhode Island. She will oversee the district’s special education programs across all grade levels, ensuring compliance with state regulations while also working to strengthen support and services for students and families in Mahopac.
